Warden Water Treatment Plant

We recently completed the supply and installation and took part in the commissioning of the Warden Water Treatment Plant in tandem with other contractors and the Project Engineers.

Warden falls under the governance of the Pumelela Local Municipality. The water treatment plant, capable of delivering 5 [ML/d], gets its water from the newly constructed Cornelis River Dam and supplies water to the residents of Warden and Ezenzeleni.

Clarity Installations (Pty) Ltd Scope of Work consisted of the following:

CHLORINATION PLANT

The design and supply of a new facility, which is fully automated complete with residual chlorine analysing and automatic dosing regulators for Pre- and Post- Chlorination. As a standard, we also supplied safety equipment, including, but not limited to a BA-, Safety- and Emergency Kit B, with a Safety Shower.

POLYMER DOSING SYSTEM

An in-house, pre-build, dosing skid with duty/standby configuration. The smart digital Grundfos dosing pumps deliver up to 15 [l/h] with a discharge pressure of 7 [bar]. The skid was manufactured from 10 [mm] polypropylene and assembled with relevant pipes, fittings, 1000 [kPa] pressure gauge, 1000ml calibration tube, tags, Y-type strainers, drain, flushing line, isolation valves and a multifunction loading and relieve valve on each pump.

SANDFILTRATION

We removed all the existing nozzles in all 4 filters. After removing the nozzles, we inspected the lateral system with an integrated camera to look for any damages or blockages. Once the filters passed our QC inspections, we installed and levelled new Clarity Installations (Pty) Ltd short-body nozzles. Water was then used to perform a bubble test on the filters before loading the new silica media. Our media supplied was dual grain with a proposed nozzle slot of 0.5 [mm] with 3 layers of stone, coarse and fine media respectively.
